The Ottomans conquered, murdered, and enslaved millions (mostly Christians). Let's qualify that along with your "pretty stable" comment.

The Middle East was deeply unstable before Iraq. You have to be young to not know beyond that.

Saddam's invasion of Kuwait and Iran, Lebanon's incursion into Israel, Jordanian internal strife, etc. etc. All of this predated Iraq.

I honestly don't have a response to this due to the ignorance and unfortunate filter you have put on history to see it your own way. I bring up the Ottomans and the atrocity of their splitting Europe in half by cutting the Christian west from east. I do so in order to illustrate there was nothing stable about that.
