Every now and again I happen to walk past a TV playing Stephen Colbert. Its absolutely painful to watch. It wasn't exactly easy before covid, but now its physically cringe inducing. Watching him question whether or not his joke landed and the growing insecurity that comes from not having the validation of the laugh track isn't enough to make it watchable. Its that fucking sad.
Before covid there was a trend for a moment to use audio filtering to remove laugh tracks from things like Big Bang Theory to show the audience how poorly written and weak the humor and jokes were.
Covide remote broadcasting is doing this to everyone. It's glorious.
Without laugh track, they don't know if they're supposed to laugh or not.
