At this point public schooling is a net negative on your child's intelligence. They're better off wandering the wilderness for 18 years than plugging into those communist brainwashing camps.
My wife went to a public high school in California - almost dropped out. Total burnout stoner because the teachers had over capacity classes and zero funding and she just gave up. Zero self-esteem. Checked out. Was convinced by her educators that she wasn’t worth anything (always the females - the male teachers were the ones who made sure the kids felt that they had worth). Guidance counselors couldn’t even be bothered to talk to the kids unless they were athletes, rich (and could donate large sums of money to the school) or exceptionally gifted.
She still graduated on time but didn’t go off to college immediately. Fast forward 8 years and she completed some college, found out she wasn’t any old idiot and that learning wasn’t hard. Damn near 4.0 GPA. Deans list every semester.
Realized colleges were liberal indoctrination centers where she way paying to take bullshit classes on bullshit topics (forced feminism, race issues, that stuff). Said fuck it, dropped out, found subjects she loved and has been educating herself (math, which was once a pipe dream for her to even think about understanding, is now something she’s really strong in - and I’m talking Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Probability, Statistics). She’s going to start up in a welding program once we move out of state and found her passion.
Schools are no longer places to educate students - they are lib indoc programs aimed at pushing ideals on impressionable kids. The unions are corrupt. Usually the district has a ton of skeletons too. Classes are overcapacity and students just can’t learn. The whole system needs an overhaul. Hell - we are seeing the indoctrination in her cousin who is entering sophomore year and is already fully indoctrinated into Socialist and BLM views. She didn’t learn this at home as the folks who she lives with are both extremely conservative and have been trying to reverse the programming.
Thank you for posting this. That's one of the most inspiring and hopeful things I've read in a long time. Best wishes to you two for a happy life. So sorry about the cousin, though.
Hey, our logic is that you should never let your past or current situation dictate your worth or future capabilities. I once had a teacher tell me I'd never understand math or do anything involving it. Scored an 800 on the math section of the SAT both times I took it, graduated Summa Cum Laude with one of my BS in Mathematics, use math daily. I know guys who were in the dumps, addicts, guys in jail who turned their lives around.
And thank you - we have our ups and downs in life like everyone does, but we don't quit. We've been through worse and can always improve our situation. Hell, at one point after I got out of the Army, we were struggling to pay rent and eat - like saving and turning in our cans struggling. Now we are paying things off like bills well in advance. It's all about positive mindset towards goals.
Oh, we think the cousin is about to get a rude awakening... she just got her first job... in California... tax central ;)
I love everything about this story and I'm so glad your girlfriend fought for herself.
I do want to correct one statement for the record. I teach in CA, and there is plenty of funding. The union bats around a 12,000 per kid number. With 40 kids in my classes, which is normal, that's 480,000 a year. I make $90k, $120k with pension contributions and bennies. Wheres the other $360k going?
But that's not the worst part. When you dig into the data, the number is more like $20k per kid.
Now think back to your public school experience and let the rage flow through you.
And even though they dont deserve it, I am apologizing on behalf of all of my colleagues and all of my fellow citizens of CA who let this happen to your girlfriend.
And just so anyone reading this comment knows, I'm actively working on gettng out because it makes me sick to be part of this system. I'm slowly developing an online school for parents who want their children instructed in liberty and truth and what it means to be free, both the benefits and the responsibilities of that gift with which we were born and that we must protect and preserve at all costs.

I mean, you’re not wrong.

Truly, the enemy is inside the gate.

Now we're talking $800k.
I still cost the school $120k.
Wheres the other $680k going?
