She hasn't left her house since March because, unlike most people, getting Coronavirus would be a death sentence. I come from a long line of smokers, and it wasn't so long ago when it was totally normal to sit on the couch beside your dad who was smoking, or ride in the car to school with him smoking and windows up. The 80s and 90s were peak awesome, but with it came certain harms for sure. Is it any wonder I started smoking at 11, (quit when I got caught and punished) and picked it back up at 20?
Well, it is a cessation aid. The first week of patches should make you smoke less.
I find keeping your hands and mind occupied (in that order) is what is helpful. I was very close last month with patch + gum, but like you said, stressful stuff going on (not related to politics but also politics) in my life make it more difficult at times.
But not just the oral fixation but people get bad enough I do believe they literally need something to do with their hands. Video games, musical instruments, MAGA knitting, drawing, anything to keep the hands busy. Along with something like gum to take care of the oral fixation.

I even only work part time and take care of my daughter while my wife works full time. We're swimming in excess cash because we don't partake in these things. We go to parks, we cook meals at home. Life's never been better simply because we don't waste money on these vices.

It’s like the post office, which has a labor union that strikes against the tax payer and has no accountability. 80% of the post office’s expenses are from labor. Why? Is working at the post office especially dangerous? No. Does it require specialized skills? No. Employees are paid that much because it’s easy to stick it to the taxpayer. Now the post office is $70 billion in the hole because it’s inefficient and overpays employees. So what’s the solution? Not pay cuts. Taxpayer bailout. The post office and it’s employees are just asserting their interests at our expense. Just as welfare queens are exploiting the system. Why get their finances under control when they can just say “look how poor we still are, we need MORE welfare!” It’s up to us to make sure there are consequences, not bailouts.
