He was directed to do this and I want those that directed him to get a lot more than a slap on the wrist. I'm cool with underlings getting light sentences, but only if they rat out the guys sitting at the big desks. Also, He should lose his law license after he pleads guilty no matter how much of a light sentence he gets. I don't want him, or anyone else like him ever to be able to practice law again.
This whole operation was orchestrated by people who were, relatively speaking, high up in the various organizations. Everyone who knew, and everyone who commuted extra-legal acts were higher ups. Clinesmith was probably one of the lowest on the Totem Pole who knew the deal and did things for which we can prosecute, despite his high level position in the organizations. Do you want to hammer Clinesmith, or do you want to hammer Brennan, Comey, McCabe and all the rest of the masterminds? Because, I have to tell you, without the testimony of someone who was in the cabal, I don't think there's any way to get a conviction.

Well shit.
Dec 10th is too late!
Yawn. So he admits to the crime and gets a firm scolding instead of the slap on the wrist.

Clinesmith is not an underling--he reported directly to the director. Check out Dan Bongino's explanation.
