Could be some things that transpired beforehand. Maybe they had interactions before. Unacceptable behavior. Perhaps the mom was just teaching her son to stand-up for himself assuming the women would not get violent beyond take the hat. Not a parent, but it probably a fine line...not standing-up for yourself can have lasting impacts, but you can’t risk too much danger in doing so, otherwise, it’s stupid.

If you want to counter protest do it. It is my opinion that 7 year old kids don't need to be put into potentially dangerous situations as props.
