I did this last week. I went grocery shopping with no mask in very liberal area. A few older women gave me wild eyed looks, but I just kept going. No employee or other shopper said a word about it despite the reminder over the PA to wear one that comes on every 5 minutes or so.
It felt weird that just going into public without it was like the most subversive act I've done as an adult. It's unbelievable that living as I was less than a year ago felt so freeing. I won't be going back to that anymore.
It really does feel freeing, and that’s ridiculous. I have only worn masks a handful of times in all this but I’ve stopped completely now. I’ve seen some other people look at me and then take their “face covering” off. I almost take pride now in holding my mask-less head high and showing other people that still reason that they can too.
I feel like a beacon of hope to the world when I go out in CA. Store employees run up with smiling eyes to ask if I need help like I'm a celebrity. I've only been asked to leave one store. I asked if i could put my tshirt over my chin and he said that was fine.
I think its psychologically painful to not see people's faces for them.
