It's amazing reading literature from Soviet defectors. They rail against the USSR, but still are totally ok with the rape and murder of German women and civilians during WWII because they were fascists. It's like they didn't learn a thing, and defected only for personal, selfish reasons.

Two things here.

  1. the only people that had the privilege of defecting were people who had risen through Soviet ranks, and were already sociopaths.

  2. you are confusing western morality with eastern morality. Universal rights, equality, the value of the individual, etc., are very western things. These defectors probably saw/heard of entire villages starving, of their own people. At that point your mind starts making tradeoffs, like who would you rather see die/raped/tortured? Soviets or Germans? If a Soviet village gets to eat, is it okay to rape a German village? And so on. For a country that does not value individualism, the idea of individual suffering is meaningless. It only matters whether the suffering improves your own society. So they hate the USSR, because it made their people suffer and did not bring any good. And they hate the Germans, because they also made their people suffer and did not bring any good. It's like that.

I just think we shouldn't trust traitors just because they say things we like to hear. There's a reason the British discarded Benedict Arnold after he was no longer useful. You don't allow people like that to take a leading role in your society.

So we have a sociopath with a different moral code taking refuge in our country because he gave us valuable intelligence on his homeland. Great, give him a pension for his services and settle him in some rural area where he can do the least harm. But don't raise him up to be a television broadcaster where he could potentially subvert your people.

Mmm I don't know, that sounds an awful lot like deplatforming someone because you're afraid of what they have to say. Why not just raise your kids right so they can see him for what he is?
