This. Walmart and Target stocks are so high for a reason. Wealth transfer to corporations led to higher valued stocks. This isn't representative of the economy nor is it a good thing.

I’ve been making en effort to only but from local small businesses. They also dont require the face muzzle.

I walked into a Walmart yesterday and the girl said "sir";and motioned that I should be wearing a mask. I said no and kept walking. I felt kinda bad because she had to do it. A woman was walking out maskless as I was walking in and she smiled at me.

That felt pretty good.

ChelseaHubbell 25 points ago +27 / -2

Yuo should have told her she was misgendering you, use their foolishness against them

Them: "Sir you need to wear a mask"

You:"ahhhhhh! Ahhhhhh! She misgendered me, lock her up!!! Ahhhhhhhhh "

9
lifeisahologram 9 points ago +9 / -0

Love it for that reason as well. I’ve been going to Firestone for almost 10 years, but they hassled me for not wearing a mask, so I found a local small shop.

Dudes are all based. No masks. Plus they have an American flag in their shop, so I know I can trust them.

More expensive, but I feel better paying them!

It's a combination of Musk using normies to pump the stocks and the shorts increasing the value.

3

It's extremely expensive to try. That's why it goes up. When people close their positions because they are losing money on it, the value tends to increase.

the-new-style 10 points ago +11 / -1

Indeed. Lots of people not aware of the "and why that's a bad thing" side of this.

There is much to love in the Trump Economy but a booming stock market when production is 75% of what it was a year ago should make people suspicious.

Nearly 50% of the S&P is in passively managed indexes that just buy all the listed stocks in equal ratios. This ignores the fundamentals of performance.

This is a huge price distortion. And unprecedented. When folk want to liquidate their investment, the downside could be extremely painful.

Here's a 15min video about it

https://youtu.be/2Y8k73E1K4A

2
Homopratensis2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes. The passivity ov investment is so overlooked. No alternatives to equities really exist. So everyone just plows their money into the markets which drives up their cost. If anyone cared about P/E ratios many luminaries of the market would have no interest.

1
the-new-style 1 point ago +2 / -1

Don't think, just buy the S&P!

1
Homopratensis2 1 point ago +1 / -0

And who could blame anybody? I mean it's what I do and every silly alternative has proven worse except gold maybe. If you dropped your stocks this year and didn't buy back in June you probably feel pretty dumb now.

9
Sodium_miner 9 points ago +9 / -0

Agreed especially since they did this. Clinton’s were on Walmart’s board for years and based in Arkansas and now all small businesses are closed but Walmart is still open but only if you show your papers (mask). Huh.....

1
mty_green_go 1 point ago +1 / -0

To be fair Walmart was one of the last companies to do so and they only did it after their corporate office city (Bentonville) passed an ordinance making it mandatory and then so did the state of Arkansas.

12
Sodium_miner 12 points ago +12 / -0

Walmart has destroyed America in that all they sale is Chinese disposable crap. People drove by every small business to get there and save a dollar. I haven’t shopped there in many years. Nor will I. Just me, everyone should do as they like.

3
EdBuck 3 points ago +3 / -0

Mort of the folks here don't realize Samuel Walton was a real man and his fortune, which surpassed all in his time, was not enough for his rotten children who squeezed everything they legally could. I'm not sure what's worse Walmart or Amazon but I avoid both. Ebay/Etsy seems like the future to me. A million small owners.

5
EdBuck 5 points ago +5 / -0

I have a little exposure to legal government affairs. In my area it was the local/regional businesses that wanted the mask order. It helped them avoid any issues with their labor and shifted the blame to local governments who issued such ordinances. They were able to throw their hands up and say it's the "government" order. Cough I'm from Texas and the company started with an H and ends with a B

6
lanre 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yeah, I understand Trump is trying to put a good face on things, and the Democrats are doing everything they can to destroy the economy before the election, but it must really suck right now for small businesses.

“The Dept of education should be called the Dept of NO EDUCATION! The Dept of energy should be called the Dept of NO ENERGY!”

Disband them all. Our founding fathers would stand in absolute horror of what has become of America. Hey, they were radicals too.

Yeah, my depression and negative thinking has returned with a vengeance. In about April I noticed that my lifelong depression must have faded and come back... it had subsided enough that I hadn't noticed it even being a thing for a few years...then I find myself thinking about suicide again out of the blue after years of not doing so and it is pretty lame. Things were going well, and now every day I wake up to read the newest fresh hell they have in store...

Sadly I think this will all get far worse. The politicians asserted that they had absolute power and you know what? We said "ok". They're never going to give it up unless we stop saying "ok".

14
memechallenger33 14 points ago +14 / -0

Don't let the Dam National Convention get you down! They want us to believe the world is a shithole, and especially that America is a shithole, and they are the only saviors. It is a load of hogwash. You are on the Trump Train! Read some memes, laugh a bit, and enjoy the breeze in your hair. Drink a glass of communist tears and relax. So refreshing!

Also, go watch some funny old movies to make you laugh and lift the depression. I think Judge Dread is hysterical myself, but really any comedy will do. Then also try to learn something cool during the lockdowns so you will have a good story lately. I met someone who learned to play the ukulele. I thought that was pretty cool.

MAGA! You can do it!

Nah, I get it. It's hit or miss. They had some edgier shit earlier on. Shit that could see them get cancelled in the near future with how things are going.

For example, Q was a panelist at a feminist round table discussion and had to disagree with everything. Some lady got annoyed and said "look at Michelle Obama." Q replied, "yeah she's great, she's great, but I mean, she got where she is because she slept with a man."

And another one, "sure women can do anything a man can do, but when you go to a mechanic...I mean, you want your car to work, right?"

The first time I watched em was on an off day from an extended 3 month hike I was taking. My dad had driven out to hang out with me. And we randomly flipped it on and ended up watching a bunch of episodes eating ice cream. So it has kind of a sentimental spot for me I think.

Some of their comedy is surface level, corny run-of-the-mill stuff, absolutely. But some of it is really gold. And sometimes they get dark as hell.

Not to mention it's kinda wholesome overall. 4 lifelong friends who started with a dream. All have distinct personalities.

I'll leave you with some of my favorites. It's also legit hidden camera, no actors unless they state otherwise.

https://youtu.be/ae4JmMbu9oo

(Women's rights round table)

Might not be your thing but off the top of my head those are some good ones. If you don't find enjoyment out of any of those, it's definitely not your thing.

Sorry for the random essay on the Impractical Jokers, but I think they're great. Seem like good guys. It's about the only show I watch.

Sillylibtards2020v2 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm in the exact same boat as you, and I have to constantly remind myself that things aren't as bad as they seem on the Internet.

First off, it's an election year, so there's always fuckery afoot and everything gets amplified x1000. We also know a loss is a possibility (almost impossible if the Dems don't try to steal it) and that helps give life to our worst case scenarios.

We also had to deal with COVID this year, which would have been tough even without the rest of the BS going on. I don't care what other people say but everyone had some concern over COVID at some point, but for most of us we were able to see through the BS early and realize it wasn't that bad. Yet the Dems are still using it to fear monger until the election is over, and both have temporarily changed our normal way of life.

There are the usual concerns from politics and the policies being pushed, and they seem to always be getting crazier, but we've constantly dealt with this so I don't think it has as much impact on the sudden change.

Instead it's the MSM and the people behind the curtain that are trying their best to further polarize the country. First they pushed COVID and then they tried to start a race war over some POS overdosing.

Both have caused some messed up things to happen, and we are right to be concerned about them, but when it starts causing major depression we need to take a step back and analyze things from afar. Realize the video clip or headline you see is about one person or a small group and the shitty thing they did or had happen to them. There are some 330 million people in this country, and we're seeing the actions of only a few, but again it's amplified by the MSM to make us live in fear or to give up hope and stop resisting.

Before I get downvoted to hell because we shouldn't give the libtards an inch, I agree. But on a personal level some people's brains chemically work different, some people have other issues that get piled on with all of the above, and if it's having a big negative impact on your life then it's ok to take a step back because it's not worth ruining a relationship, quitting your job or ending your life. There's only so much we can do and in this regard the most important thing you can do is show up in November to vote.

Sorry for the long rant, IBS is a bitch.

5
WarpedSage 5 points ago +5 / -0

The good or bad news, whichever you choose to interpret it as, is the impact is mostly going to hit other countries we used to help. Africa will get much less free food shipments, leading to thousands of child deaths (UN confirms this) and most of the stuff cut will be that which goes to other countries.

Seattle Pede here, Conspiracy theory: Amazon/Bezos is in some way involved with the riots and/or virus. They benefit the MOST out of all this. Virus kills 30-40% of small businesses, riots take out another 8-15%, and some have to close up because they can only open at half capacity and demand is shot. Thats a substantial and in some cases a fatal blow to Amazons main competition. Bezos/Amazon is involved with MANY of the tech spaces (ecommerce, cloud (AWS) etc), owns the Washington Post (pure propaganda), Blie Origin (SpaceX competitor) and Whole Foods. They are buying EVERYTHING and I could totally see them paying money to BLM (they did) to have them trash/loot the businesses that werent wiped out from corona. Sorry for the novel, just did some uppers in Vegas ;)

If only we could tax the owners of all the empty commercial real estate to push them to turn it over and rent it/sell it versus leaving it all empty. Potential for cool things to happen when there is fair access to commercial spaces.

1
Friendly_B 1 point ago +1 / -0

Generally speaking they want to rent it out, but not for cheap. Better to have an empty storefront while losing money until someone with the credit comes along to rent than to make a poor rental agreement and lose the opportunity being available to the next big renter.

I won't pretend to be an economist, but as I understand it, the market primarily measures investor confidence in big businesses.

Is it not decoupled from unemployment, small businesses, and general blue collar struggles?

In other words, it charts the direction of the ship but not the happiness of the passengers, or is that trickle down theory that if we chart course to Hawaii it benefits everyone?

1

But nobody said the stock market is the economy? Nobody said we don’t want to save small businesses either. We don’t need the stock market to tank AND small businesses to fail do we?

1

The stock market is booming because investors know every time there is a dip the Federal Reserve will fire up the printer and start bailing out the corporations.

1
oEMPYREo 1 point ago +1 / -0

Right. Well this is the greatest drop in the economy since “the Great Recession” so I can see why it’s important to push money into the economy. I’m not downplaying small businesses being devastated, I think we should be doing more for them, but I don’t see anything wrong with praising the stock market booming as it’s representative of people’s view on the economic recovery. Also our retirement plans are directly influenced by the stock market so I for one am loving to see a large increase.
