That's why children get vaccinated as early as they do, because that's when the mother's antibodies are leaving the child's system, and their system is mature enough to begin making antibodies on their own if it is exposed to the virus (which we either weaken to the point of impotence or it is dead, and simply a foreign body the immune system learns to destroy).

I asked the doctor soooo I dont have to intentional give her chickenpox? It sent me back to my traumatic experience with being given chicken pox on purpose. It fucked me up I lost hearing in one ear and I was lucky I was young enough to where it's all I've known, but it's still a limitation.
I can respect the libertarian argument against forced vaccination, but if you want to argue that vaccination has never worked against smallpox, polio, or chicken pox then you're being just as anti-intellectual as the people pushing for indefinite lockdowns.
The principle behind vaccination is in essence the same as the principle as "let's get all the young/healthy people exposed to COVID-19 so we can get herd immunity". The only difference is how it's achieved. Before an effective smallpox vaccine, George Washington had the whole Continental Army variolated (intentionally exposed to a small amount of smallpox--caused by the variola virus) because he feared the British would use it as a biological weapon.
Variolation had a 3% mortality rate, but it was considered a success because smallpox had a 20% mortality rate and people wouldn't even name their young children because of it. Then a British doctor found that the vaccinia virus (which causes cowpox) also offered strong protection against smallpox since milk maids who got cowpox rarely died from smallpox. Hence, he started advocating that people get vaccinated rather than variolated.
I think against something dangerous like Measles, vaccines are good. How many centuries down the line will Big Pharma be making money off the C-19 flu vaccine, just to be safe y'know.
C-19 is pretty safe and tame. Vaccine those at risk, or even those soon to be at risk. Should a Teacher get vaccinated or the whole class? It feels very basic to me.

I fully support the research and development of a PROVEN SAFE and EFFECTIVE vaccine for those who want it. But I do not support disregarding what is probably an unenumerated right of an individual to decide what happens with their body in response to fear and the unknown (lack of evidence/data).
Disregarding personal liberty for public safety was explicitly warned against by the founders and is a dangerous precedent to set in terms of protections against government overreach and abuse.
