All this "they" garbage goes back to Gamergate where that false rape accusing woman "changed her pronouns" to make her wikipedia article harder to understand.
The scary thing is, I went to an Elite New England Prep school which drilled proper English and Grammer into my head. But they've gone far down the woke lane, I would not be surprised in the least bit if they started allowing some morons to start using they/them, xe/xir etc for their mental insanity.
I've had conversations with professionals about how grammar doesn't really exist because of ebonics and racism. Or something, I stopped listening pretty quickly.
I grew up in a small town with people who speak N. or S. Midland regional dialect --generally based upon what your ethnicity and social class were. My mom's family were S. Midland speakers (aka. we were poor and not Germanic). My family made a very big freaking deal about our "public" grammar: written and spoken because nobody wants to be called poor white trash. "We speak the King's English when it counts." I don't know how many times I heard that statement from them growing up. And yes, I do remember getting teased in college when I came back from break and forgot I was in public.
I became an English teacher (maybe because of this? who knows) -- welcome to my personal hell; death by a million tiny grammar infractions.
"Anti Hate"

Or they know that the singular of 'they' is 'it' and 'it' usually isn't a word we use to refer to a person.
