I think you are right. The Dems remind me of when, in Three Amigos, Chevy Chase ended up in a closet when he tried to enter the bad guys stronghold through a window. When the heroine asked him, "What do we do now?", his reply was, "We have no plan, sometimes you can overplan these things." The Dems have talked themselves into a closet :)
