The worst thing our schools did to young black people is tell them that non-standard english is ok in the business world. It's not, and it doesn't matter if it's an ethnic thing or a regionalism.
I kid you not, I have been told that a man cannot have a southern accent and sound educated. Skin color has nothing to do with it. A lot of "black" vocal habits are shared by many others living in the South.
George W. Bush, who was a pilot and had two degrees, from Yale and from Harvard, took a lot of shit because some people did not like the way he pronounced "nuclear." That, at one time was a huge story.
There are others that have claimed that DJT cannot be smart, because of his "coarse" New York accent.
