Yeah this looks great. Melania has style and class. I hope she redoes everything tbh. Give me that neo-Roman gold swag everywhere.

Looks great!...yet it’ll be just crickets 🦗 from the left on this. Melania is the classiest, most elegant and beautiful first lady our country has ever had yet the MSM completely disrespects her.

Be honest, if you had to guess which one was the Obamas, and which got the touch of Melania, which would you pick? I honestly can say I'd think Obama's was on the right, Melania on the left

I disagree. I like the right better with the exposed architecture. Just needs some pretty bright flowers, and I’m sure next spring there will be plenty, possibly tulips like the left pic!

We pay for the upkeep, I'll take simple and elegant...

SuperSilly 8 points ago +8 / -0

I mean... it's called the rose garden, not the tulip garden. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love my tulips. Dump a few bulbs in a hole, cover it up, wait through winter and they just keep blooming year after year. But, my roses keep blooming every year, too and they smell awesome.

p8riot 1 point ago +6 / -5

Nobody goes into a garden to look at.. the architecture lol. The whole point is to be lost in the beauty.

Is this a narrative floating around right now? You're not the first person I've heard say this.

BoughtByBloomberg2 9 points ago +9 / -0

You're quite wrong about this. Monastery gardens are specifically made to accentuate the architecture. Same with the Rose Garden. It's supposed to be a reserved place where one can take a stroll. Not a tulip bonanza with clashing colors.

3
p8riot 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I appreciate the non-REEEE response.

Ok, so is the idea then that this design further accentuates the architecture by removing the trees? I can see how some vines going up the columns might be interesting... but I'm failing to see anything accentuated when I look. It feels bare to me.

Other angle of Melania garden vs Mike garden.

Look at how uneven the trees are? They are blocking the view from inside and also make it impossible to get a good view from inside the garden.

Now we have trees next to the entrances and a clear view of the gallery. This is accentuation. You can of course disagree because it is a subjective topic we are on. People can just love more green and don't care about the building, but personally I'd go for something that works together with the building to frame it and the garden properly.

Also look at Obama there. Just walking on that grass.

I don’t think it’s a narrative I’m just a nerd lol. I love walking through Philly checking out all the historical buildings I definitely get lost in them. Also she put roses in the rose garden so that’s pretty fitting.

There were always roses in the rose garden. "Melania" made it exclusively roses. JFK specifically wanted other flowers included, namely those of Jefferson's era:

Mellon said Kennedy had asked for the vibrant look. “The President loved flowers and asked if a variety of other types could be mixed with the roses. He had read the published garden notes of Thomas Jefferson and hoped for flowers used in Jefferson’s period,” she wrote.

I think the flower change is used a distraction lightning rod, steering the conversation away from what is essentially an entirely new (not "restored") garden.

I think this concern trolling and anti-Melania shit needs to get fucking deported ASAP.

Your post history is almost nothing but concern trolling and arguing /being smug with other pedes...all while you advocate we vote in Democrats and that there are lefties for Trump? WTF is this shit?... how the fuck are you even still here?

You wanna cup Big Mike's balls and advocate we vote in Dems? Maybe you should go the fuck back to reddit with the rest of the commies you soyboy cuck.

OUT!

ouvrez_les_yeux 7 points ago +7 / -0

I love tulips (like the photo on the left), but it's a rose garden. Roses need to be #1, even if they aren't in bloom all the time. I read the rose varieties she picked are: "John F. Kennedy", which is white, "John Paul II" which is also white, and "Peace" which is a yellow tinged with pink. Should be very classy looking and nice symbolism on the varieties.

2
p8riot 2 points ago +4 / -2

In the article linked, the garden's designer Rachel Lambert Mellon says that JFK wanted it to be colorful, SPECIFICALLY ASKING for other flowers to be included.

Mellon said Kennedy had asked for the vibrant look. “The President loved flowers and asked if a variety of other types could be mixed with the roses. He had read the published garden notes of Thomas Jefferson and hoped for flowers used in Jefferson’s period,” she wrote.

Kennedy’s dead. His turn is over.

2
p8riot 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes, but the title of the post is "restoring the Rose Garden to its original state"

4
Food4thought 4 points ago +4 / -0

I liked the trees.... but it's whatever.

3
p8riot 3 points ago +3 / -0

Right I'm not like stirred either way, but if I had to guess the sequence of before / after... usually it has gone from cold and stale to something warmer.

Look at the tree in the back in both photos. It's the same tree but they look different

2
p8riot 2 points ago +3 / -1

They cut three feet of foundation (probably more) into its roots.

Putting a sidewalk there, to me, really diminishes the sanctity of the totality of a garden. Makes it look more like a corporate mall decoration. Something you'd see on the side of a highway.

Like all things with the Trump administration it is about restoring past splendor. There used to be walkways in the rose garden. What use is a garden where you have to tread on the grass messing up the ground or can only look at from the side?

0
p8riot 0 points ago +1 / -1

That's a beautiful garden.. but assuming that is the garden in its original state (?) can we really call this a "restoration to the original state"? It looks nothing like that photo.

1
BoughtByBloomberg2 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well you can't knock down parts of the buildings can you? That gallery to the right is new and the back building is also new (from when the garden was started) and cuts off part of the old garden. But you can restore the walkways and tone it back down from garish tulips to more modest roses.

Personally I like tulips better than roses. I like their cyclical nature and the easy interbreeding that can create some interesting color patterns.

But this image and this image show a clear difference.

Less crowded. Got rid of the uneven middle trees obstructing the view of the lawn. Trees have been trimmed down to no longer collide with the building. You can even see the old pathway that was ripped out and just partially left there on the bottom left. Now it's back and SecSer doesn't have to walk on the grass constantly.

Overall an improvement. Mostly because it's actually a rose garden again.

They put sidewalk for modern technology for modern presidency in modern press.

7
Equality72521 7 points ago +7 / -0

Not crickets at all. They are, in fact, bitching and moaning about it which is exactly what we should expect.

If Trump walked on water the headline would read "Trump puts bridge-builders out of work."

2
BoughtByBloomberg2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Trump can't swim. Read all about it!

3

And just like the opposite of Michael Obama, that repulsive trash compactor of a human being.

Exactly. It’s much more elegant and open now.

It looks like it just needed a walkway the entire time and now it has one.

T_Dismyhappyplace 11 points ago +11 / -0

Just saw a big fight on fb about it, everybody’s bashing Melania, fake news abounds! It was needed for lots of reasons, and she massively improved & updated technology infrastructure.

Vox: OMG look at what Melania has done to the Rose Garden REEEE! Drumfler bad!

Me: Didn't know that. Thanks, Vox, for carrying Trump messaging to us, just like in 2016.

We have the best FLOTUS folks!

Bax101 6 points ago +6 / -0

Get god back in the WH. Remove the demons and any sort of symbols I am sure Bill, Hillary, and Barrack added.

3
MK_Ultraviolence 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think Melania DID have a priest cleanse the WH or something after they moved in lol

4
MythArcana 4 points ago +4 / -0

Oh, they got rid of the basketball court, gay bath house and wet bar? No wonder Barry was crying at the end.

4
Smurfection 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's beautiful! Melania has style. I hope she is enjoying being FLOTUS because she has graced us with a touch of class and elegance that is sorely missing in the modern world.

4
GitmObama 4 points ago +4 / -0

Melanie dug up trees with her white supremicist shovel.

4
MidwestNorsk 4 points ago +4 / -0

Vox is trying to slant this the opposite way.

3

Of course they are.

4
cajun_robear 4 points ago +4 / -0

She probably did it in honor of Trump's pal, JFK, Jr..

3
SirThundercuntTRONxp 3 points ago +3 / -0

Lol - oh no! The garden we just planted doesn't look like an established garden.

Looks like an improvement to me. Let it bed in a bit.

3
The_RedWolf 3 points ago +3 / -0

What did it used to look like?

3

Pathetic leftist media tries to portray FLOTUS as some tree-digging monster. Crazy amount of pettiness.
