I don't mind the idea of paying taxes if I have a say in where it goes.
I don't want to pay taxes for programs that I'll never benefit from. If I could check a few boxes that say which buckets I want my taxes to be distributed, I'd be fine with that. For those who don't care or don't want to hassle with it, they could elect to just have their taxes distributed however the government decides.
This would have the added benefit of self-regulating tax funded programs. The annual budget would be determined by where people chose to allocate their taxes, not by corporate or lobbied interests.
Trump's second term platform includes school choice, which is essentially just that. You still pay taxes to fund education, but you get to decide which educational institutions your taxes go toward.
If that can be adopted with education, there's no reason we couldn't do it with other sectors.
I wonder if that means that only income earned past $52,800 would be taxed, or if a family earning $52,801 would suddenly be on the hook to pay a 17% tax on that entire amount.

It's a touch more realistic than that.

For those who may be wondering, money under the $52,800 would get untouched, meaning that the poor do get to keep their money.
