For that much, I'd look into other rifles, like a k31, mauser variants, an arisaka (if you like reloading), etc. Imo the only reason to get a mosin is for collector purposes or cost. If you can't get a good price on them, there's plenty of other great milsurp rifles out there.
Local store has 3 mosins for $300-$400 each. Tempting
Old enough to remember when that was the price for a crate of 10. Guys used to buy Mosins like sliders at White Castle.
In some areas you can still find clean ones for $200!
Really? I thought they were all selling for like $400-500 now. At around $200 I think they're definitely worth considering.
I got mine for under $200 last year! The shop where I bought it, admittedly, has WAY too much inventory sitting around.
Oh nice. Yeah, I think they have a place with prices like that. I can't imagine spending $500 on one though.
Ya these looked like they had some minor rusting on the bolt. Wondering if I should have just bought one for shits and giggles

Are they Tula or Izhevsk?
Not sure how to tell the difference other than the bolt handle was straight rather than 90 degrees like in the image.
Tula SKS rifles have a star with an arrow in it stamped on the receiver. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/jxzrcNpq-_EdaIrS8jykWwW2xB_8Hxsdyi8qqqN4Ghe71waUlc1-2oSMTWlh0P_1DM5Wt62rwzFIYuxC
Izhevsk rifles have a triangle with an arrow in it on the receiver. https://www.geocities.ws/Pentagon/Bunker/4064/PersCollection/M1895Survey/Post28Izhevsk.jpg
Noted for next time I’m in. Is one better than the other or not really?
