I remember doing this at hockey games as a kid (I am Canadian so... hockey). If you were at the concession stand and the anthem started to play everyone would go silent and stand in recognition. Many as myself with hand over heart out of respect. I haven't been to a game in a while but I would imagine it is not nearly as pronounced anymore.
