I've never lived in California, but I've been to SF often enough on business to know the difference. And yet every time, I've run into people who talk about splitting the north off into the State of Jefferson.

There was another shooting last week in Pasadena, CA.
Traffic stop, passenger runs, goes for gun in waistband, cops shoot him in the back, he runs 50' or so before he realizes hes going to die if he doesn't get medical aid so he lays down and is compliant.
The cops run up on him, handcuff him and start administering aid to him in under a minute.
Absolutely 100% top notch work, fast target neutralization, blazing fast de-escalation; it could not have been done better.
Within seconds there are 50 people hooting and hollering, screaming, insulting, race baiting the cops - they are SERIOUSLY getting into the Cops bubble, and the Cops amazingly more or less ignored them and helped the perp they wounded.
As an Army vet - there is no way I would jeopardize my safety by letting that angry crowd surround me, while I was trying to do some focus intensive work like saving a guys life.
This means the Cops either had way better composure than me - in which kudos to them; but it still apparently wasn't good enough for the bystanders and subsequent riots.

The cops are going to arrive presuming he was armed. Shaver didn't bring the pellet gun out with him, but since the cops hadn't cleared the room yet, they were still operating under the presumption that the gun was real. You can't act like information obtained after the fact had ANY relevance to the moment. Do police have x-ray vision? Can they see through walls? The answer to both of those questions is a resounding "no".
