Democrat governors are sending tens of millions of ballots to random people, dead people, dogs, cats, etc. And when the election is chaotic and confusing it's all Orange Man's fault!!

No no fren. They know they're going to cause chaos. Biden has 600 litigation attorneys on retainer around the country right now.

If they cause enough chaos and drag it through court long enough pelosi will take the presidency until the election is decided....

Think about how long 600 litigation attorneys can drag that shit out.

Newsflash: The USPS isn't the election department. We've had decades and decades of elections just fine without universal mail-in voting. The USPS has only been involved in a very limited capacity of absentee ballots.

Why can't we have elections the normal way? Why does everything have to be changed suddenly? A couple months from the election and 50million ballots are randomly being sent out to people who never requested them.

Oh no a Republican head of the USPS, we can't have that when major USPS unions are endorsing sleepy Joe.

you can't have 75 million dollars invested in competitors to the USPS when all the USPS does is deliver junk mail. (The only ones to do so)

They've been removing obsoletemailboxes for years, if they don't get used it's a waste of money to collect them everyday. Blame democrats for not using the mailboxes in areas.

Yep, the same people raging about how important the USPS are the same people who were bitching for years why online banking isn’t 100% online and why bills still need to come via mail and why junk mail is so shitty.

Truth is, I never use the USPS and while it’s a good cheap service, i think it’s outdated. I’m just like you, I check my mail once a week because I can just grab everything and throw it right into the recycling bin. All my bills I pay online, I don’t send letters or packages, and 95% of all my shipments come via UPS and FedEx anyway.

BUT IF USPS FAILS, YOU WILL PAY $20 TO SEND ONE LETTER!!1!

Cool, still not going to send letters because i don’t even send them when they cost 55 cents. If they can’t survive, they should fail. They would be in no danger of failing if they did not need to prefund retirement but no one talks about that. And why do mailmen pull over $40 an hour when FedEx caps pay at $25 an hour for drivers? Bad system from the top down.

It's straight up indecent. These companies are using our tax dollars to send garbage with ads on it that we're forced to deal with, even if very quickly by just trashing it as soon as we see it. Still have to pick it up, see that it's a stupid fucking ad, then carry it to the garbage.

And we're essentially paying pay them to make us do it.

2
Webasdias 2 points ago +2 / -0

2
FireannDireach 2 points ago +2 / -0

They're paid twice - by us, through taxes, and then through the spam house, who pays for their bulk mail stamp.

Everything I've heard is that if they started regulating junk mail hard, the USPS would have been bankrupt years ago.

They just need to change one thing: addressing mail to "resident". That's 90% of it. End that, and make spam houses maintain accurate, up to date mailing lists, and enable fines for repeated abuse sending to the wrong occupant, and you'd end most junk mail.

I don't even know why anyone bothers, I've been told the return rate on spam mail is so low it's basically statistically noise.

Ours marks packages as delivered but then she writes Heavy on a slip and places it in our mailbox (who knew a few ounces qualifies as heavy). Since package is listed as delivered, the QR code doesn’t work. Can’t set up an alternative pickup using the tracking number or code on the slip. Good luck getting a refund from the company that sent it. Good luck getting anyone on the phone.

24
chinesevirus 24 points ago +24 / -0

I think the USPS should be scaled back tremendously but it should absolutely exist to service all Americans, especially in areas where the likes of FedEx and UPS will not or cannot service. It should be made leaner and more efficient which is absolutely possible.

26
Wtf_socialismreally 26 points ago +27 / -1

Fine, but no matter the course of action, mail in voting on a massive scale cannot be allowed.

17
the_hoffman 17 points ago +17 / -0

People are missing a very simple point.

Trump himself is not against a mail-in system when someone must REQUEST their ballot. This is what happens in absentee ballots and demonstrates the bare minimum of political involvement.

The problem is with mass mail voting, where ballots are sent out directly to all households without any prior solicitation. This is when they have to come up with a list of everyone’s name and current address, and this is where you run into trouble, because things are mailed twice, ballots are lost, ballots get sent to dead people, etc.

This is also when you end up with things like door to door politicized canvassing for votes (to convince all the people that have an unopened ballot sitting on their coffee table to vote for a certain party).

In short; lost mail aside, the real problem is not with the mechanism of voting, it is with the fact that in-person and absentee-style voting are OPT-IN and require a nonzero investment of time, which filters those who are completely disconnected from politics and have no idea what they’re voting on or for.

Also, fraudulently registering for a ballot has a far higher barrier to entry than fraudulently mailing a ballot you received in error. If someone gets two ballots to their apartment, one to them and one to the person that lived there before them, it doesn’t feel like such a big risk to sneakily full out both. Lots of plausible deniability if somehow caught. Whereas filing a fraudulent request for an absentee ballot, that just feels far riskier to most people.

1
muslimporn 1 point ago +2 / -1

I think there's a problem with mass mail voting even if a bit less unrestricted.

There really isn't a good solution to doing it at that scale with the same level of rigour and reliability as what's typically done especially on a short notice. I would disagree slightly. The mechanism of voting is problematic in this case at this scale.

I wouldn't call myself an expert in the matter but I don't think that's necessary to point out this radical a shift at such scale and volume with limited time that's unprecedented and untested is something you can expect to just work.

I think the unsolicited part is just something that makes it that much worse. It's not the point for me from good to bad. It's the point from bad to worse.

If you had reasonable governance then I might be able to retract that. Competent people could potentially work out something with a short turn around if the rest of the system also pulls its socks up. Unfortunately you have the democrats and that really compounds things in three ways.

One:

Principally their approach to securing such an endeavour is to deny that anything can go wrong. That argument is not only one against not doing mail in voting but also against making any kind of reasonable effort to make sure it's secure. With that approach it's a hole in one, the option is off the table.

Two:

The democrats do not care about democracy on a large scale. It's an oxymoron. Many literally believe that Trump is literally Hitler, in the flesh. Many more believe he's the equivalent. These people are not in lunatic asylums. They're all over the place. They're highly published and visible.

They're every other person you talk to that supports democrat. They're working in the system and there's probably plenty like it in positions to exploit this. These people believe it's the end of the world for Trump to win.

Put it another way. If you could go back in time and alter the election before WWII so that the Nazis don't win would you? Don't ask yourself that question. Consider the answers you would be likely to get. Now consider how many democrats believe the current situation at present is comparable to that.

If they don't cheat given the opportunity then they are systematic racist homophobic islamophobic xenophobic transphobic sexist misogynistic nativisted uneducated (I guess you lose your degree or something if you vote for Trump) redneck rapist confederate KKK white supremacist Nazi Alt-Right hateful violence inciting genocidal murderous bigots. The least of their concerns is being branded undemocratic. From a democrat perspective if you cheat in the elections you're saving the world.

Three:

They're completely and utterly incompetent even if they were to try to cooperate. Their incompetence is apparent here. They already know there is a large number of people conditioned to cheat given the chance. All they need to do is to let the guard down and it'll happen naturally. They're not just demanding mass mailing but also for it to be as vulnerable as they can get away with.

debacle 12 points ago +13 / -1

We need the USPS. What we don't need is Amazon and Walmart getting a sweet deal on last mile deliveries and hacking their delivery models to maximally exploit federal workers.

We also don't need mail delivery every day. If I got mail two or three days a week I would be happy. If cities want 24 hour delivery and delivery on Saturdays, they should pay extra for that.

6
the_hoffman 6 points ago +6 / -0

They should also do something about the fact that some 60-80% of mail is unsolicited spam and advertisements. Comcast sending yet another promo envelope, banks selling new credit cards, there’s just no end to the list. I can’t imagine how much time is wasted with this stuff. But you also cannot regulate it so easily because it will always be a gray area between what is something like a receipt, notification, or service by a company, and what is an unsolicited promotion.

4
Wheredidiputit 4 points ago +4 / -0

Comcast sending yet another promo envelope,

To me, who is already a Comcrap customer. Why are you sending me this shit???

7
the_hoffman 7 points ago +7 / -0

2
The_Bloofy_Bullshark 2 points ago +2 / -0

At my old apartment we received Comcast adverts all the time. Xfinity didn’t service our area and our building was already wired for gigabit. $35/month with no contract and all you had to do was plug your router into the jack in the wall. It was absolutely amazing, blazing fast, and the money saved for one month could easily pay for a year of a killer VPN service.

I’m still salty over them stealing my memorial bracelet out of its packaging (the bubble package was legitimately cut open). The folks at Til Valhalla Project were amazing and sent me out a new one immediately but it seems the only thing that the USPS is capable of is losing mail/packages and delivering junk mail. Also the person at TVP I spoke to said that apparently there were a bunch of issues with USPS delivering their packages. Seeing how the union endorsed Biden, I wouldn’t be surprised if some shitlib in Florida is seeing the word Valhalla on their packages, immediately jumping to conclusions that it’s a Nazi brand (it’s a group that makes memorial bracelets/plaques and raises awareness and money for veterans mental health/suicide) and conveniently loses the packages.

Try and call them, busy signal. Ask mailman a question about a package they apparently delivered, they run. Finally get in touch with anyone and they claim that their driver would never skirt their duties until you bring up that there are cameras in the area.

2
H_Guderian 2 points ago +2 / -0

79
KnobGoblin 79 points ago +80 / -1

I used to fly cargo for the USPS I can tell you exactly why the slowdown occurs.

I’ve flown empty planes for the USPS because they literally wouldn’t send the mail to the airport because they wanted to make sure the trucks were full and paid. We could have had 18,000 lbs of mail delivered to smaller cities every night but ended up delivering less than 100lbs because they simply don’t give a shit. They work for a pension that’s it (edit: I’ve been told they don’t have pensions anymore but the point remains the same) It’s corrupt to the core and cares nothing about its history or purpose.

-6

Honestly if the cost of a fair election is we bail out NY and CA, then I say we pay it. It's getting too close for comfort, and I think safe to say they beat us on this one. Bail out the blue states in exchange for a FAIR and SAFE election. Probably going to get myself downvoted here, but frankly im terrified of these mail-in ballot elections.

EDIT: Well, I guess I was naive in thinking that the Democrats would compromise. As everyone pointed out, this is probably a terrible idea because they would back stab us anyway.

8

Luckily I have heard that the Republicans out number the Democrats if it were to go to Congress. It's not a straight vote in the House, it is a delegate from each state. This would mean that each person would have to fall in party-line however, which we know is not guaranteed. I'm trying to fact check this, but if someone knows off the top of their heads if this is true, please let me know.

It's the same problem a lot of conservatives here have. They are clinging so desperately to the "moral high ground" that they're letting the communists do whatever they want. They "can't" do the things that democrats do because it would be "morally reprehensible" to them, even if it means losing the country.

Principles are fine to follow if both sides are. When one side isn't you're an idiot if you keep following them. Ask the redcoats how well it turned out for them in the Revolutionary War by continuing to fight the way they had always fought and expecting us to play by the same rules. At some point every "but muh moral high ground" hand wringer needs to either get over themselves or be ready to turn themselves into the gulag.

11
McFuckyeah 11 points ago +12 / -1

Have you been living under a rock? Here's what really happens:

  1. Private USPS starts blacklisting people for having the wrong opinions.
  2. Freedom USPS, a competitor, announces they will not discriminate based on ideology.
  3. The press smears Freedom USPS as a "neo nazi" postal carrier, and insinuates that the owner is a criminal.
  4. Visa, Stripe, and Paypal announce they'll no longer service Freedom USPS.
  5. Freedom USPS announces they're starting their own payments platform.
  6. Chase Bank announces they'll no longer provide banking services to Freedom USPS. Several other banks follow.
  7. Cloudflare drops Freedom USPS as a client. Their website immediately goes down under a wave of DDOS attacks.
  8. Freedom USPS's hosting provider drops them as well.
  9. If Freedom USPS is still around, almost all their customers have moved to Private USPS due to media propaganda and service interruptions caused by Freedom USPS's technical troubles. Now all Freedom USPS has left is white supremacists, neo nazis, pedophiles, and a handful of libertarian hard liners.
  10. Freedom USPS goes under due to a dwindling customer base, inability to raise capital, and the costs of dealing with the increasing number of lawsuits and federal law enforcement subpoenas.
  11. Private USPS given Best Customer Service award for 2020.

We've seen this over and over again. It's not always that dire, but suffice to say when the woke mob wants you gone, you're gone.

4
the_hoffman 4 points ago +5 / -1

Also a lot more expensive.

Economically, private sector has VERY little motivation to waste money delivering tiny volumes of mail to tiny towns and counties, when their logistics are by far more profitable in population-dense areas.

Same thing goes with telecommunications companies. They have to be regulated into providing service to rural communities, otherwise they wouldn’t bother. And the result is sub-par service that is very expensive, under the reasoning that it’s better than no service at all.

In many cases, rural communities are majority republican, so it’d be in large part republicans losing access to reliable mail services.

-2
MAGAlikethis -2 points ago +1 / -3

Yes, making a profit and keeping a business going involves not doing everything at less than cost and then depending on the government for taxpayer-funded subsidies. That's part of an efficient business.

Part of choosing to live in a rural community is knowing you have less access to things like telecommunications. There is still a market there, it's just a smaller one.

Why are you advocating socialism here?

Let me tell you something about Louis DeJoy. I worked for New Breed logisitcs for a short time about 10 or so years ago. I didn't even make the connection until I saw his company mentioned. This guy took his mom and pop trucking company which was doing very well and turned it into a logistics empire. Like Trump, he could have settled for a life of privilege and not worked a day in his life and be just fine. Instead, this guy took over the business and built it into something many multiples time its original worth. Built contracts with some of the top tier defense contractors and a lot of Fortune 500 companies.

I worked a couple of days where I was in at 7AM and left at midnight. You know whose car was still in the parking lot? Lous DeJoy. He worked harder than anyone under him and lead by example.

This guy is the real deal and can walk circles around not only his peers, but anyone in Congress. Trump's selection of this man is more evidence that Trump has continued to surround himself with the best of the best.

Democrats continue to abuse "reclaiming my time". It's meant for when you give time to another congressman, not cutting off a witness answer

4
VoidWanderer 4 points ago +4 / -0

If they followed rules and what things meant they wouldn't be democrats.

I don’t like DeJoy, too close to Amazon. He made a stint to make him look like he’s stopping the mail but he appears to be 100% pro universal mail in ballots.

5
DemsFuckKids [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

b/c he wants funding?

2
snoopy3210 2 points ago +2 / -0

Because amazon is afraid of being broken up with antitrust if Trump is re-elected. You have a powerful company now acting like a monopoly and it won’t accept being broken up without a fight. They sent DeJoy IMO.

was that a car horn in the middle of her speech? friends pulling up letting her know it's time to to protest?

MythArcana 8 points ago +8 / -0

The mail systems will certainly clear up before Christmas shopping time. 😌

Spawnlingman 8 points ago +8 / -0

It should fail. On July 16th I had a flashlihht shipped from Florida to MD for my Beretta. By July 28 it reached Minnesota. Wtf? By August 4th it updated to say it would be late but still arriving. I put in a complaint with USPS on August 8th. I got a call from them on August 16th. They looked up my tracking # and read what I could already read on the website myself. That was it. Had a second flashlught shipped FedEx on the 17th and it arrived today.

USPS sucks.

Return all fake mail in ballots to sender.

"Postage due".

4
TexasJack 4 points ago +4 / -0

No reason for 6 day delivery. 3 or 4 would be adequate.

3
DemsFuckKids [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

see amazon, mostly 2 day delivery

-1
VoidWanderer -1 points ago +1 / -2

If you have prime. "Free" shipping is not usually 2 days unless it's something that's in a warehouse near you and even then it's usually 3 or 4.

Dude has been on the job for what like four months? I doubt he even has a grasp on every little facet of USPS. Now get dragged in front of Congress for a partisan attack and I could see how he would be.

It can be vetoed and the Senate can vote against it. True colors will be shown of the Senate.

3
Light_HIV_Effect 3 points ago +3 / -0

Still trying to find the post office in jackson heights that AOC is demanding needs a ramp. They all look like they're along the sidewalk and not the post offices' responsibility to put in, that sounds like something NYC should be handling.

Go get Cuomo or De Commio to fix that

2

1
DemsFuckKids [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

huh?

1
Mrsattorney 1 point ago +1 / -0

She claims she has alopecia or some such hair loss condition, but I kind of wonder if that's true. I think she embraces the harsh look.

3
TheMadManDidItAgain 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thanks. Was wondering. I don't have a problem with it, I was really just curious.

1
Mrsattorney 1 point ago +1 / -0

What's odd is that she didn't shed the hair until immediately after she got elected.

2
TheMadManDidItAgain 2 points ago +2 / -0

She's looking for sympathy support, it sounds like. What a cretin.

2
Light_HIV_Effect 2 points ago +2 / -0
