People don’t realize we have millions of combat veterans walking the streets today, and while they lack the money and equipment of our current active duty, those currently on active duty collectively have little combat experience, most units are not deploying into much more than sustainment positions.
I discharged in 2011, my peer group that stayed would be in the 10-15 year service experience now. We were drilled on a consistent basis our role to protect the constitution and how we would not turn on the US public (was a genuine concern at the start of the Obama era, at least in my units). The pentagon is severally disconnected from the enlisted side of things.
