Read 1800's history books on Abraham Lincoln. That'll blow your mind. You'll also never trust a textbook ever again.

In what way? Did they tend to be for or against him? I'm going to assume more accurate than textbooks today?

Then Lincoln decided on a huge tax for southern States, 60%. The south knew they could not withstand such a hit. and there was no bargaining with these people because we had no representation in Washington. So we went to war.

I would love to read more about this if anyone has a starting point. It definitely would explain things a lot better. I've always thought "war was about slavery" narrative was a proxy for the fact that it would threaten the south's economy.

Definitely makes it clear why the South sees secession as their 1776v2, and the war as the "War of Northern Aggression"...
