I’m gay and I only bring up my sexual orientation when it comes up. It usually only comes up when I bring up that I have a boyfriend of ~10 years. Other than that, never. I don’t wear rainbow shit or anything.
Not only is being gay not part of my identity, but I also refuse to be a token for some people on the right. I’m an American. I am an individual. I’m not a prop or part of some monolith.
If people on the right use you as a token it's probably because the only gay people they're used to seeing are the ones who scream about it and define themselves as their sexuality, I wouldn't take it too personally.
It's almost like the gay acceptance movement went full pendulum swing and instead of it being acceptance it was celebration which is weird.
