Really raises the question, just how fucking little have prior Presidents done on this front? I'm sure he's a better negotiator than almost any prior President but to have secured more citizens' releases than any other President in half the time of the average President means the rest must just not have been trying.
I think it's what happens when you put a non-politician into office, especially one who throughout his life has been in their world and played their games but never became one of them... You just "do" what needs to be done and don't worry about the "optics"
It makes me think he's actually the one on the phone talking to the other world leaders. Basically just saying, give me back my citizen, and the other Presidents probably never even picked up a phone to try before. All the others most likely just figured someone in the State department would get it done.
