Depends on where you live obviously but moving here from upstate NY everything seems to be mixed together. Yes, there are nice neighborhoods and bad ones but for the most part you have mansions next to house next to apartments next to shacks next to trailers (I am close to the coast). The further you get away from the I-95 corridor the nicer the neighbors get in my experience (unless you're in Greenwich/Darien where everything is nice).
