I more or less agree but I’m not sure it is “Democrats”. I think that is too narrow a group.
Democrats have the baggage, as you point out, as being pro slavery which dates back to 1700s or before. But more “recently”, dating to the French Revolution which started in 1785 and the literature that triggered it dating 50 years or so before is the root of the evil today.
Intellectually, Socialism seems like a good idea but at this point, we have massive proof that it is a horrible idea. And, actually, even intellectually, any premise that starts with “man is basically good” is fatally flawed. But, I can forgive being stupid. Stupid isn’t evil.
But with the huge amount of proof that we have today, it is more than clear that the social programs do not work. Socialism, Communism, and Fascism (which all stem from the same premise) do not work. Its obvious. And not admitting to that is evil.
As far as Joe McCarthy, he was right and wrong at the same time. Right in the sense that the failure of America will come from inside and Communism / Democrats will be the source. But wrong in the way he looked and where he looked. Most Republican politicians at the time privately agreed with his basic premise but disagreed with his methods. And... history tells us that his methods didn’t work.
I can't recall the details I think the story goes that a Russian agent defected. He pointed out an American who was an agent of Russia. And when he was arrested, the details of much of McCarthy's accusations were validated with documents he had and the stories he told.
As you say, it was far deeper already than anyone really realized.
Every time I think of Burnie Sanders and his multiple houses and then I think of all the people who believe in his rhetoric, I'm just stunned. How can they not see?
I have a friend who use to ride motorcycles with no helmet, still hasn't cut his hair and he is approaching 70, etc. But, he is deathly afraid of the CCP virus, wears a mask, believes 99% off the mass media but insists that he is not influenced by MSM at all. How can he not see the glaring contradictions? I'm sure I have my own and that is what really keeps me up at night.
