The only thing I might question is that Nixon and Kissinger went on to "normalize" relations with China, paving the way for today's events. It was a double edged sword. Some think that much of Asia would have been destabilized if they hadn't negotiated an exit strategy from Vietnam with the Chinese. Regardless, that was a long time ago, there were plenty of years to change course since then.
