Secondly, my state has a “stand your ground” law, but requires that you not “use excessive force” unless you can prove your life was in danger.
I saw a video tonight of a mob approaching/surrounding a guy with a gun, and they didn’t touch him, though at any moment they could’ve jumped him and beaten/killed him. Would responding with lethal force be justified in that situation?
Depends. Lots of factors. Even in clear cut cases charges get brought. Sometimes murderers get away with it.
Its a gamble, which is why you should only use lethal force if your life is in danger. The risk of death always outweighs potential legal trouble.
