If you watch the 'skateboard guy' part of the video again... I think he essentially shot himself.
Right when he pulls on the gun, is when it goes off and if you think about it... tugging a gun towards you while someone's finger is on the trigger will fire the gun.
I think you are correct, I'm not sure he had complete control of the rifle at that moment but the tug would definitely fire it if his finger was through the trigger guard

I can tell you that MY finger would have been on the trigger in that situation.
And that is absolutely correct procedure according to Australian Army training (and personal experience) from the 1980s.
