They make outrageous demands on taxpayers to go back to their classrooms or even to continue teaching classes from the comfort of their homes.
There are plenty of accredited teachers in this world who have Internet connections. Without the personal contact between students and teachers, our kids would be better served with on-line subject experts from Germany, Kansas or Bangalore.
Are the unions going represent the best interests of teachers who have to take a job at Walmart and interact with a thousand adults a day instead of 20 kids in a school?
I'm a huge supporter of public education. The classroom experience provides critical interaction with peers where kids learn to socialize and establish community relationships. Absent that interpersonal experience, I'd rather my kids spend screen time with teachers who have real expertise in math, history, English, etc.
Fuck teachers unions. They are signing their own death warrants.
The entire education system and it's teaching methods need to be stamped out and reformed, it was all good when they were babysitters who taught kids facts, now they have become their state sponsored indoctrination center. I don't want to send my children to school to learn about this bullshit.
Totally agree. New Math and Common Core were national experiments that have failed an entire generation. 6th graders in Japan are mastering Algebra while our 6th graders are learning how to put a condom on a banana.
Late to the Party! Most Unions are just legalized mafia! Teachers Unions are communists 100%
You are so right
Pay me more for not showing up to work.
"Public" education is a misnomer. It's Government education.
I disagree. We were one of the first countries to offer an education to all, regardless of wealth (slaves and women being exceptions for a bit).
Nothing in our Constitution mandated this. Local communities decided that investing in education would make for a more prosperous community.
While some public schools are failing our kids, at least they have the opportunity.
I'm very much for school choice, BTW, something unions and liberals can't stand because it doesn't allow them to indoctrinate our children.
Public sector unions exist only to extort taxpayers.
So true! Unions have their place in allowing collective bargaining for labor, etc, but why doesn't anyone ask: If the Government is the teachers' employer, why do we need to have a union in the way in order to be treated fair, etc? Shouldn't we be able to trust the Gov? (rhetorical, sarcastic question)
Teachers Unions exist ONLY to propagate their own existence.
I've been to a few teacher's union meetings and it was entirely about political advocacy (i.e., call you representatives, here's how), and zero about ideas for how to be better educators.
I went to public school in a large county in VA. I moved to New England and my kids went to public school. The big difference is that we elect our school board at the town level. We know them personally.
When CNN has a "Town Hall Meeting", they do the actual event a major disservice. I've been to real Town Hall meetings arguing with School Board members and neighbors. The discussions sometimes continue at the local bar with a few beers.
Never cede the education of your children to Unions or "The State". Get involved. Your tax dollars are paying for your seat in the room.
Public schools would at least be bearable to a degree if the teacher's unions didn't exist.
One city near me announced they are prepared to open up in-class schools as early as September 22. Union fighting hard to prevent it.
I would be totally happy if Trump took a leaf from Reagan's book and fired the lot of them.
Truly. We need go McCarthy on their asses and toss any union pushing BLM/Marxism into GITMO
My wife is part of a school union. She's not a teacher, but is in a separate and equally shitty union for "classified" work. She attends the union meetings and hears all the propaganda like "If it weren't for us, you'd not have any benefits...blah blah blah". Recently a bunch of her cohorts complained about the signs around the area saying "Hiring School Bus Drivers at $18.00/hr" while these unionized workers who actually bust their butts in the school are making less, and have been there for years. The unions' response? Oh that's just a one-time thing to fill a shortage, blah blah blah. Such a crock of shit. My wife works really hard, and is rewarded with yet more work left behind by lazy & complacent union employees. I keep telling her that in the private sector, hard work and efficiency are actually rewarded. She really likes working with the special-needs kids, and I'm beginning to see that were it not for people like here who are willing to work for less just to fulfill their calling, the schools wouldn't function at all. They're mostly replete with lazy ass teachers and staff. BUST THE TEACHERS UNIONS!
Don't get me started on the bullshit equality training virtual seminars she's forced to attend before she can start working this year. I'd love to leak those out - they're disgusting.
The reason you support public education is the same reason the Marxist-Communists infiltrated the teacher's unions decades ago.
No. I support public education because we can't be competitive at a global level - economically or militarily - if 3/4 of our population are illiterate and can't do simple addition without counting fingers and toes.
My support for public education has nothing to do with unions. Unions and liberal policy makers have fucked it up badly, but a public education is still essential to the well being of our country.
Without a public school education and good parenting, what would Ben Carson be doing right now?
Yes. A good public education is important. That is why the unions were taken over. So they could get at the kids and change the type of education they were getting into indoctrination instead of education. They wanted to put the children at a disadvantage and under their control psychologically. They have done this now, as we all can see.
Teachers: (While getting paid to be off since March, keep vacation/sick time) We feel unsafe to go back to work.
Retail workers (Already exhausted 1 week of vacation and 1 week of sick for the year, also don't receive income if they stay home) We've been working the whole time.
