My understanding, from when I took the concealed carry class, is that if you shoot someone there will be some kind of charge. It may be murder 1 or involuntary manslaughter. You have to make sure the shot you take is truly in self defense. IOW you believe your life or that of another is in immediate danger. At that point lethal force is self defense. There's always going to be a charge (unless you live in Chicago and then people just seem to get away with shooting all the time), it's just a matter of proving you acted in self defense. Which it looks like he can do to me.
