True. Wish the guy informed police. Probably freaked out. No one wants to shoot someone, but if it's your life or theirs.. well..
Here's what I've read:
He did inform them. He dialed 911 and told them about the first shooting, the police asked him to make his way to where they were. He was in the process of doing that when he fell down and started getting attacked and shot the two other dudes. Then you see him get up and start walking towards the police as the police were coming towards him. The video stops there, but I would have to believe the police detained him and then let him go. Only after the fact, when he's in his home, do they press charges.
How can someone help this kid and make sure he isn't "made an example of" with an unjust sentence?

He needs a Barnes like criminal defense attorney.
This is one of the things that I think Barnes sees that many others don't. This isn't a criminal trial, it's a political one. At the very least Barnes should be on the shortlist of people to call to find someone able to handle a political trial. You are spot on that a Barnesesque lawyer is required, a goddamn warrior, fuck, can someone get Don Jr a bar examination in California, Virginia, Vermont, or Washington? He seems like he'd go all out.

The viedo evidence is clear self defense. Charlie and his Uncle from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia could get him off using only bird law.
I have a feeling overcharging him is entirely the point. There's a wink wink nod nod that the DA is giving to this kid but in order to quell the public outrage just charge him and have the case collapse at trial by that time people have forgotten about it.
