The problem is court records are public, and there are HR people who know to search them. It is not as big of problem as being convicted, but its better not to have it at all.

Of course it's better to not have it at all but if you decide to protect your family and a jury rules self defense, you don't go punished. The HR team doesn't usually get to the felon until the end if you get a referral.
