Big pharma put a lot of money in doctors pockets and vica-versa from all the bullshit scripts they hand out like candy. Legal drug cartel

Do they take commission? The more drugs they prescribe, the more cut they get?

kickbacks are illegal. Lots of things are illegal...but that doesnt stop it from happening. Little googling will show many many examples in recent times of the different kickback schemes some doctors and hospitals try to make an extra buck.

It's closer to video game journalists and video game publishers. They don't get direct payment, that's illegal, but the journo is going to give good reviews to the company that gives them a 5-star hotel and hookers for the weekend, and a bad review/no review to the company that doesn't even give them a free game.

Likewise with doctors, say you get three drugs that can treat an ear infection. Each is being sold by a salesperson. One is an SJW dangerhair landwhale who preaches about patriarchy throughout the "information sessions" about the drug. Another is a bikini supermodel who invites the doctor out to an information session lunch at an expensive place (their treat, of course, since it is their product pitch). The third is a Pence lookalike who insists that to get the full grasp of the product's effectiveness, you need to come along with him on a hawaiian cruise, airfare and cruise paid for of course, and that he is on the front line of drug development, so of course, if you want another cruise, all you need to do is contact the company and ask for him, and he'll find another product to demonstrate for you.

All three products will work just fine for the general population. They all passed FDA standards. If there's good sales of a product in a region, the person in charge of sales will almost certainly come back to visit again. Do you want the patriarchy lecture again, the nice luncheon again, or the all-inclusive vacation again?

There's no direct "you sell X amount, we give you X dollars", it's about the sales office relationships.

Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like a matter of sales pitch. Instead of a one off deal, it seems the company aims to groom some reliable distributors for their products in the long run, and instead of direct payment the company offers pleasures and priveleges that money can't buy. Very tempting and clever.
