What sort of experience do you have with drugs and or addiction? With all due respect, you don't sound like you are terribly qualified to be rendering an opinion.

You are attempting to force two very disparate categories of people into one large box.

Drug addiction can happen to anyone, even you. The worst thing you can do is think you are immune or different than those people, IMO.

The brain plays crazy tricks on itself when it gets addicted to something. We are just now learning the full extent to which the brain can basically motivate itself to give it what it wants. With many substances, like opiates for instance, asking a person to stop that cycle with simple "will power" is not really an option. The brain makes sure of that.

Once you get into the throes of such a disastrous cycle your life can degenerate quickly around you without a personal safety net of support.

I'd be careful about thinking you are any different from these people or any less susceptible to addiction.

You'd also be shocked at the use of amphetamines in the world around you.

Many people you know and interact with may be using these drugs and you would have little to no way of knowing.

Anecdotally, I know the financial sector has adopted its use so widely that many have expressed feelings they are at a disadvantage by not using them. It is that widespread yet still there are many that are completely oblivious to it.

But someone taking Adderall at their job to get ahead and a heroin addict looking to degenerate themselves for their next IV hit are two very different things, IMO.

I don't think I am too good for either to happen to me under the right circumstances, and I don't believe anyone else is either.

But I would save my hate for these people because they will inflict far more damage and retribution upon themselves for their transgressions that you ever could.

There too go I but by the grace of God.
