Yep. Wife is Japanese. I lived there for 4 years. Can confirm that TV is their holy Gospel. As peaceful as they are are and detest the very thought or idea of war... the TV could easily have 99% of the society do a full 180 on that stance within a year.

My experience with the Japanese is that they want to be agreeable at almost any cost. So if the media is portraying one narrative most all Japanese will go along with what they consider the group census.
