You're on the ground, enemy combatants are attacking you, the next head strike might be the last thing you ever feel in this life. How many people would have just opened fire indiscriminately at that point. Kyle showed AMAZING restraint.

After he shot the first guy I saw muzzle flashes from across the street and then no one shoots from there again.
Random people in the crowd shot indiscriminately at the shooter/whole car lot and everyone there
Yea there is alot of audio of gun shots and it's not clear where they are coming from. It seems likely Kyle was the target of those 6-8 shots we hear after he gets up off the ground though.
