I have been wanting to find an AR to buy recently (for obvious reasons). Found a Ruger AR 5.56 NATO. Never shot this particular AR, but I'm still considering getting it because ARs have been out of stock everywhere recently and I want to own one before it's too late.

Here's hickok's video review of one. He seems to like it. Price is much higher now than it was when he made his review, but I think that's to be expected right now.
That's what im thinkin
Do it before someone else does.
If you know anyone looking, it seems there are some ARs out there right now. Probably all gone by next week
Neat, thanks!
The best AR is the one you own. Ruger makes a fine firearm. Good luck finding anything right now and good luck paying any reasonable price. If you don’t have one and want to get one then it’s a good purchase.
I also own a Ruger revolver that I love. Looking forward to this AR now
It's what I have. No malfunctions after a couple thousand rounds. No complaints. Basic black rifle that you can dress up as you see fit.
Nice. I just pulled the trigger and ordered. Going to pick it up by friday. Super pumped
Just out of curiosity, how much is it now?
The one I found local was $800. I also found one through Ruger's website for $874. Buds has them right now for $850 cash discount. Ruger must have just sent out a shipment.
edit.. oofff that's before taxes. That added quite a bit haha. Still happy to buy
I own the Ruger AR556 pistol, and I have to say it's quickly become one of my favorites. Zero malfunctions of any kind so far, well built, comfortable, good finish, a few nice features you used to have to do yourself back when ARs were just starting to get popular like a rounded trigger guard, free floated Mlok rail, no old A2 front sight you had to remove yourself. A lot of other rifles do this stuff now too of course, but the Ruger is inexpensive but definitely doesn't feel or shoot like it.
I'm sold. Doing it now
Thoughts on a Springfield Saint Valiant chambered for .308 WIN?
Never touched one, so no thoughts.
🤔 🆗 👍
5.56 is low recoil and easy for follow up shots. The noise and compression will take new shooters some getting used to. Ammo will be scarce at this point but it’s USA made and parts, mags and ammo will be easier to come by, in the long run, than foreign made.
I noticed the low recoil in Hickok's video. I'm glad to buy American
I wish I had bought one a few year ago when I had the chance, seeing the way the prices are now! Im just glad I found one with how everything has been atm
Thanks for the tips, pedes. I went for it. Very excited.. now to find ammo!
My neibor has one and he loves it. I think he could have bought a Smith and Wesson and saved 200 dollars but I don't tell him that.
If you can get one, do it. They aren't fancy, they are over gassed, bad triggers, mediocre barrels and finishes. They are bound to be over priced right now. I wouldn't own one, there are much better. But availability dictates that the ruger 556 is a take at this point.
Yeah, it's literally the first one I've seen listed locally in months. I can always upgrade parts here and there as needed
Start with a decent single stage trigger. ALG combat trigger is perfect and cheap.
Buy an full auto bolt carrier group (BCG from here on out): nothing fancy, 90-130 dollars melonite, phosphate, salt nitride or chrome. some good brands- in that price range- Microbest, tool craft, cryptic coatings, and a reasonable low price option is a aim surplus BCG 90 ish bucks.
Keep your barrel, you wont wear it out and its accurate enough.
buy a good optic. Skip the cheap chinese shit on amazon. its tempting but a shit optic makes a great gun a pile of shit also.
PLEASE LISTeN TO THIS PART:
DO NOT BUY skelatonized/lightweight parts. You are building a fighting gun, not a trinket. skip the color anodized shit, just buy reliable good quality parts. If you need an opinion on a part, feel free to respond to this post i will be more than happy to help. Put your money where it counts. Reliability,
Awesome yes, thank you, I'm saving this post. I will not buy something for looks, i want tough quality
Thank you sweet baby Jesus. It is easy to get sucked into "this looks cool" or believing that a part has some perceived benefit versus some other brand because of a feature... don't let them get your extra funds for gimmicks friend
Pede, Call Tim at Wise Arms in Louisiana. He will take care of you. I hope I am not breaking protocol for this.
I think youre good, but I already ran my card and got it ordered. Looking at Wise Arms websites tho, I will save this post and recommend this to others. Looks legit, tho I have never fired one of their guns
I watched an extractor break on one literally minutes out of the box, that's all the input I have to offer. Fortunately, parts are cheap and abundant. I don't have a Ruger, but I keep an extra firing pin and cotter keys for my bolt carrier in my bag, just in case. A spare extractor may not be a bad idea, either.
