If he really has a felony conviction in his past then he could face federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Local dem DA has no say in that.

Absolutely. Might take a little time, but when the DA gets the full scope of the scrutiny brought down on them with their insane 1st degree murder charge, a lot of legal minds are going to start laying on pressure. Hell, I'll be surprised if Trump doesn't weigh in directly.
