News corporations are the tools of the billionaire class. It's a way for billionaires to dump money to propagandize the masses. I don't think it was always this way, but it's been like that for at least 100 years (yellow journalism). The newscorps don't really care about ratings because they get money infused from other sources. They DO care about advertisements, which are reflected in ratings, but even that is more on an industrial scale than any independent advertisement (which is why they shill for big pharma so hard).
Was it Tomorrow Never Dies? I remember watching that movie when I was very young and thinking how outlandish the antagonists’ motivations were. Now, it all makes sense.
I thought that was the point where the James Bond movies truly jumped the shark. The "bad guys" had become progressively more ridiculous, and I thought "Scary Newspaper Narrative Creator" was the silliest most non-threatening "bad guy" so far.
Now- the producers look like Nostradamus! CNN/MSNBC/MSM are putting the exact opposite of the truth out there, taking money from foreign governments/investors and doing their bidding to encourage rioting/looting/racial hostility. Leftist-controlled MSM is very much responsible for pushing the lies that have led to our CURRENT YEAR!!! reeee state of Election Year Riots and Moral Panic over the Plandemic.

Wikipedia is far from the end-all, but it is certainly a start-many. When I try to enlighten an innocent babe in the woods, they most often refer to it. I guess I can't be that old when that was the same website the incurious or otherwise elsewhere endeavoring were using back in high school... back when Wikipedia was moderately better and back when there were still new pages to found that weren't found at their birth by strictly "up to date" journlolism. I visited a Wikipedia page I founded the other day... the book I read that inspired me to make the site was no longer even cited... that's not accumulatively helpful... Yellow Journalism had "bold layouts (with large illustrations and perhaps color), heavy reliance on unnamed sources, and unabashed self-promotion" according to the most reductionist literary analyst of all time that brought us Star Wars. "Pulitzer and Hearst are often adduced as a primary cause of the United States' entry into the Spanish–American War due to sensationalist stories or exaggerations of the terrible conditions in Cuba." Yup, the same Pulitzer whose legacy awarded Walter Duranty for covering up Stalin's genocide of the Polish people. Hearst built a castle above San Francisco and inspired the film Citizen Kane.
