My in-laws both have PHDs and watch CNN 24/7 on full blast volume and believe all of it. Whenever I visit, I hang out on the back porch because I can't endure it. I can't understand how people don't see through the propaganda.

PhDs don't mean much nowadays. As long as you work hard, you'll pass.

I'm not even sure you have to work that hard, depending on the program. I've met some dumb and lazy PHDs.

I can’t help but wonder if those who chase PHD’s just want to have some degree to give them a perceived intellectual high ground.

Absolutely. Many of the PHDs I know are quite insecure about their intelligence. Especially if their degree is in some sort of Grievance Studies.

I don't visit my parents much anymore for that exact reason.

You would think they would at least turn it off or mute it when I'm there. I would do that courtesy for them.
