It did look like fire from one angle, but I think it may have been due to a reflection. It really doesn't matter. It's clear the rioters had one aim and that was to assault kyle, take his rifle, and murder him with it. His reactions to this are the very definition of self-defense.

Yeah it was. I watched a video yesterday that showed the guy pursuing Kyle throw something at him, and it was clearly on fire.
