I just like how arcadey COD is. Fast paced, quick matches and even someone like me who has a life and can't spend 20 hours or more a week gitting gud can jump on and pubstomp.
It's a strategy game as much as it is a shooter. If you don't understand the optimal ways to play it and are just trying to aim at people quicker than they aim at you, you're probably not gonna have a great time.
The best shooter experience imo is Killing Floor 2. It's not PvP but the gunplay is unmatched.
If you want to be bored and frustrated* play Counter Strike.

Yeah bro. If you just wanna shoot some shit try out KF2. No pressure there since again it's singleplayer/co-op only.
I play KF2 and also still play L4D when I wanna do multiplatyer
Insurgency Sandstorm, Squad, Post Scriptum, and Hell Let Loose have taken the crown as my go to shooters.
Better shooting, controls, immersion, pacing, and sound design compared to anything out today.
