Ben Shapiro has talked about this - I think it's a relatively similar situation to Catholics. Among faithful or Orthodox people who actively live a religious life and attend religious services, there are many more conservatives and pro-lifers in both groups. But there are a lot of people who will say they're Catholic or Jewish, but haven't attended a religious service in years, and those people are mostly liberal.
After all, even Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi call themselves Catholic.
Catholics in Biden and Pelosi’s age range are almost always Democrat. It is mainly because JFK. Republicans tried to smear JFK for being Catholic, and Catholics were devastated when he was assassinated and felt like the animosity towards his Catholic faith played a part in it.
Ever since then the Catholic vote has been slowly moving to the right. Trump won the Catholic vote in 2016 with somewhere around 60%. As much of a wimp as the current pope is, he has not given an inch when it comes to abortion or homosexuality, which pretty much makes it impossible to vote Democrat.
