No the reasoning is because the police are humans who don't remember everything. People when trying to remember things fill in the blanks with false memories. You never talk to the police because there's functionally nothing they can do to help you. There's only negatives. The police will speak in court of the things you said or did but they might be different than they actually happened.
A lot of times it's intentional. A lot of innocent people have been railroaded by power hungry authoritarian prosecutors, cops and judges. They just want another "win", actual justice be damned.
