He crossed the police line to the rioters side and when he tried to return the police refused, so he turned back around and got chased by a child rapist, heard someone fire a handgun, then boom, headshot.

NYT is reporting he or they were being told to disperse by the cops, I believe. I'm guessing that is some part of it.
