Kyle was also interviewed with other volunteers prior to the incident. Kyle is either employed or was employed at a business on the same street. Can't remember the interviewer, but you can find the videos easily enough.
The media keeps using the phrase "crossed state lines" to imply he went way out of his way, but his home is only like 15 miles down the road. He probably commuted back and forth and knew the area.
