Neil deGrasse is a hack, for example. He has a degree. He's an astrophysicist. I, a mere tradesman, one semester of college, could browbeat him over science. He's just a public figure with fancy shit attached to him.

There's no way anyone can graduate with a Phd in astrophysics and not understand the material. He may romanticize and dramatize science to an extent that you don't like, but he is definitely not a hack.

I know a couple of people with Post-docs who cannot balance a checkbook, and at 50 need help from their parents to rent a one bedroom apartment. They are incapable of making life decisions, but are very good in their area of expertise.
