There are entire countries where self defense is illegal. You don't just have an obligation to run away from an attacker, you have an obligation to die if necessary - if you fight back at all, that means jail time. I live in Korea currently (I'm an English teacher) and that's the rule here. If you even struggle to escape and injure your attacker, you get punished. If you want to avoid "justice" your best bet is to lay still and let the criminals have their way with you. Fortunately crime is very, very low in this country, so it isn't likely I'll need to defend myself from anyone.

There's people out there who believe in moral absolutism without regard for context or circumstances. They think the state can exert total control over human behavior by passing a law. They think a society without self defense is tenable. They think people will tolerate having their lives destroyed if they can later get revenge in the courts. Its insane.

I'm not sure if this is the global norm, but I know it is also the case in the UK. And if we're complacent on 2A (and the self defense rights that come with it) then this insanity will come to the US in due time as well.
