I've played games where I make a split decision and I hate myself for it, I can't imagine what it feels like to make such a fucked up decision in the heat of the moment and end up not only not killing the guy, but losing a chunk out of your fucking arm lmao.
If self preservation is an instinct you possess and someone is chasing you with a gun, it's not a bad idea to shoot them first. And luckily it ended up being the perfect placed shot. Outside of a head shot the commie could have squeezed off a few rounds at Kyle. But that arm was blown to smithereens and rendered completely useless.

From behind Kyle, it looks more like faking surrender before pointing the pistol at Kyle, from Kyle's left, it looks like he was trying to approach Kyle for execution after entering the edge of Kyle's peripheral vision to conceal the gun pointing. From Kyle's right, on video, the events happened so quickly in real time that Kyle was sucker punched, hit with a skateboard, then had the pistol pointed at him in very rapid succession making it unclear if Lefty was trying anything at all or almost pointed the pistol at Kyle's head and got disarmed a split second before the barrel could reach Kyle's head. Either way they were all chasing and assaulting a 17yo and almost killed him. Attempted murder, assault with intent to commit grievous harm, battery, intimidation, brandishing it doesn't really make a difference as long as Lefty gets hit with something. Zero chance of that happening.
