It was fantastic, all four nights. I've never paid such close attention to a party convention in my life and I've been following politics for almost 30 years.
I actually liked the format better than the usual. You got to watch every speaker closely and didn't have to wait for applause lines. When it came time for Ivanka last night the difference was stark. It was so boring having to wait for people to clap (and frankly the speech wasn't all that great). Everyone else had been so much more compelling because no interruption.
Also I got to the point where I loved just seeing that room with the beautiful columns and molding and flags where most of the speeches were filmed. I didn't know it until he mentioned it the other night, but it turns out my husband's band played there once, many years ago.
I said this in the thread on one of the watch parties but this is what the format needs to be from now on. With the exception of Kimberley Guilfoyle’s speech, which was clearly written for applause breaks and suffered without them, every speech was so much better because you got to hear it without interruptions and their message was much more effective. I don’t think I would have made it through all four nights as laser focused on the speeches if there were constant applause breaks and chanting.
Yes, there's no way I would have watched the entire program all four nights if we had to sit through applause breaks. Good point about Guilfoyle's speech. I noticed that Melania's speech, though it was live and in front of an audience, seemed not to be written that way which I appreciated and I'm sure she preferred it that way too.
I felt exactly the same! I could really pay attention to each speaker, with no distractions. Found it far more meaningful, direct, and thought-provoking. I was a bit surprised at my reaction as I feared it might be low-energy without a live audience. I was riveted to C-span all four nights. So glad we have a little gathering in NH tonight: it will help my withdrawal symptoms!
Totally agree on all points. I'm excited about the rally tonight! Had no idea until OP mentioned it. I know they're keeping these things quieter these days for security reasons.

Yeah but she looked beautiful
True, it helped you forget.
